The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, (NCDMB) has completed its capacity development training for one hundred (100) persons from Niger Delta communities as Boat Operators.
The 10-day training which kicked off on 18th January was geared towards developing quality manpower to maximize competence, performance and safety in the delivery of services by power-driven small boats which are in regular use in swamp operations in the oil and gas industry.
It was also in pursuance of the enhancement of indigenous maritime manpower, knowledge and skills to support the Nigerian Oil and Gas operations in line with requirements of the Board’s 10-year strategic road map.
Delivering his remarks at the closing ceremony of the training, held on Friday at JoeMarine Institute of Nautical Studies, Effurun, Delta State, the Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Wabote congratulated beneficiaries of the training for adding new competencies to their skill sets.
Engr. Wabote who was ably represented by Dr. Ama Ikuru, GM, Capacity Building, NCDMB, expressed confidence in the abilities of the participants to improve the security of oil and gas operations, provide competent service to the marine sector of the economy, execute rescue missions in cases of boat mishaps, fight fires as well as help the sick and to bring the boats safely back to shore.
He also appreciated the good efforts of Joe Marine Institute and other important stakeholders for their efforts at ensuring the success of the training.
“Let me say thank you and assure you that consistent with the mandate of the Board to build capacity, we will continue to train and provide skills that will improve the employability of youths and ensure your inclusion in activities taking place in the oil and gas industry.”
The highlight of the event was the award of certificates to participants of the training who will also billed to get financial encouragement.
Also present at the closing ceremony was Engr. Maurice Iwhiwhu, Manager, Strategic Business Development, NCDMB, Basil Aleibiri and other staff of the Board.

The Board was established in 2010 by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, with a core mandate to manage and grow Nigeria’s local content capacity. So far, it has lived up to its mandate.
