Two of Nigeria’s Super Eagles strikers – Paul Onuachu and Josh Maja were on fire for their respective European clubs as they netted goals that ensured vital victories on Saturday October 8, 2022.
In the Belgian Jupiler League, Onuachu scored two goals as giants Genk defeated KV Kortrijk 2-1 in the new season.
He opened scoring in the 37th minute before Selemani brought the game level for the away side in the 58th minute.
Onuachu sealed the game from the spot in the 78th minute and handed the Limburger maximum points.
The lanky forward has now scored thrice in the last two games.
His compatriot Maja was the hero as Girondin Bordeaux continued their impressive runs in the French Ligue 2.
Bordeaux suffered relegation last season owing to financial issues that ravaged the team and injuries to key players also affected their performance.
They started life in the second tier like a house on fire with Maja propelling the team with his amazing display, coupled with goals.
They played at home against Metz on Saturday afternoon and it was Nigeria’s international that netted the opening goal from the penalty spot in the 45th minute.
He was subbed off in the 82nd minute before Fransergio sealed the game with the second in the 92nd minute and ensured a 2-0 win over Bordeaux
Maja spent last season on loan in the English Championship with Stoke City and he almost returned to England to join Birmingham until he changed his mind on the final day of the summer transfer.
Since the start of the French Ligue 2 season, Maja has been a revelation for Bordeaux and his six goals remained the reasons they are on top of the table.
And ahead of the Serie A clash against newly promoted Cremonese, Napoli Manager Luciano Spalletti has revealed the returning Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen won’t be in action this weekend.
Former LOSC Lille sustained the injury in the UEFA Champions League game against Liverpool and has been out of action ever since.
During a press conference, Spalletti maintained that they don’t want to risk the striker and that they want him back in the best condition.
The game against Cremonese is slated for Sunday at 5pm local time.
