Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Real Sociedad striker, Umar Sadiq, is injured and will be out for both club and country.
According to his club, the lanky forward is expected to have surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament.
The new signing who is now out of Coach Jose Peseiro’s plans for the upcoming International friendly against Portugal in Lisbon, injured himself in Sunday night’s Spanish LaLiga game against Getafe, in which they lost 2-1.
Umar who has got three goals (two for Almeria and one for Sociedad), was later substituted in the first half as a precaution.
On Monday, scan results showed that the 25-year-old season which started on a bright form, may already be over.
The club then announced with regrets that the promising Nigerian striker who joined them this summer has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament.
Umar is now expected to go under doctor’s knives in the coming days.
Real Sociedad signed Umar Sadiq from Almeria for around €20m + €6m add-ons to replace Isak, who left the club for Premier League side Newcastle United.
