In the Premier League, Emmanuel Dennis was the hero for Watford, as his goal in the 78th minute earned his side a 1-0 win at Aston Villa on Saturday.
It was Dennis’ first goal in almost two months after last scoring in Watford’s 4-1 home loss against West Ham United on December 28, 2021. He has now taken his tally in the Premier League to nine goals so far this season.
Ademola Lookman scored his 4th Premier League goal of the season which proved futile as Leicester lost 2-1 away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
Lookman scored in the 41st minute to cancel out Ruben Neves’ opener for Wolves in the ninth minute.
Also in action for Leicester were Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi.
While Iheanacho came on in the 73rd minute for Patson Daka, Ndidi was replaced by James Maddison on 74 minutes.
In the Spanish LaLiga, substitute Samuel Chukwueze provided an assist as Villarreal defeated Granada 4-1 away from home on Saturday.
Umar Sadiq scored two goals as Almeria defeated Mirandes 2-1 in the Spanish second division on Sunday night and give their promotion hopes a boost.
Sadiq opened scoring in the 69th minute before doubling their lead in the 72nd minute. Sadiq has now taken his tally to 12 goals after 23 games in the second division.
Moses Simon was in scintillating form in the French Ligue 1 as he bagged an assist which saw Nantes defeat leaders Paris St-Germain 3-1 in the Ligue 1 on Saturday night.
Simon was very influential in the first half with an assist, one shot, three chances created and 2/3 successful crosses.
In Scotland, Super Eagles midfielder, Joe Aribo netted his seventh goal in the Scottish Premiership but it was not enough as Rangers were forced to a 1-1 draw at Dundee United which saw them drop points in the title race with Celtic.
Aribo’s goal was set up by his Nigerian teammate Calvin Bassey, which is his fourth assist of the season in all competitions.
In Turkey, Azubuike Okechukwu got his first assist of the season but could not help Yeni Malatyaspor avoid a 2-1 home loss to visiting Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday.
It was Okechukwu’s first assist in five league games for Yeni Malatyaspor, who he joined on loan in January from another Turkish side İstanbul Başakşehir.
Anthony Nwakaeme returned to scoring form as he netted two goals in Trabzonspor’s 4-0 win away to Chidozie Awaziem’s in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
Prior to Sunday’s game Nwakaeme last scored for Trabzonspor on 4th December, 2021. Nwakaeme opened scoring in the 5th minute before making it 2-0 in the 26th minute.
In the German Bundesliga, Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi was on the losing side as Arminia Bielefeld defeated Union Berlin 1-0 on Saturday. The Nigerian international, who was making his 19th appearance for Union Berlin, failed to put his name on the score sheet.
In the other game, Super Eagles defender, Kevin Akpoguma played a cameo role for Hoffenheim in their 2-1 win over Wolfsburg on Saturday. The Nigerian international came on as a substitute for Georginio Rutter in the 86th minute. It was his 17th appearance for Hoffenheim and has scored two goals to his credit.
In the Italian Serie A, Super Eagles defender, Tyronne Ebuehi was in action as Venezia played out a 1-1 draw against Genoa in Sunday’s Serie A game.
The Nigerian international who was making his 13th appearance for Venezia, had a decent performance after he came on for Domen Crnigoj in the 46th minute.
However, he was later substituted in the 75th minute for Maximilian Ullmann after copping an injury.
