A young Nigerian goalkeeper Luke Campbell has signed his first professional contract with the English Premier League side, Chelsea, as clubs prepare to resume 2022/23 hostilities.
This was disclosed by the club on their official website on Monday December 5, 2022.
According to Chelsea, the deal has guaranteed him a stay at Stamford bridge until the 2024/2025 season.
Born in Slough, the tall, athletic and agile goalkeeper was engaged when he was nine before growing into the youth system of the club.
The club said Campbell is a goalkeeper with massive presence on the pitch and commands his penalty area.
The club also described him as goalkeeper that can play out efficiently from the back when using his feet.
The young goalkeeper has made two appearances, accumulating 135 minutes for the U18 side in the Premier League, and conceding six goals.
Meanwhile, Arsenal Manager, Mikel Arteta, has named a 27-man squad for a training camp in Dubai with Nigeria-eligible players – Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Ethan Nwaneri being in the team.
Arteta, who is without the service of Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, and others invited the duo.
Arsenal will be participating in the Dubai Super Cup.
The Premier League table toppers will face Lyon on Thursday December 8, before a meeting with current Serie A champions AC Milan five days later.
Both players played the entirety of the second half as Arsenal were beaten 4-2 by Watford in a behind-closed-doors friendly staged at London Colney on Saturday December 3, 2022.
Butler-Oyedeji has been in a tremendous form for the Gunners, scoring four goals, and creating an assist in four Football League trophy Games with the U21.
On his part, Nwaneri has scored two, created three assists in five games in the U18 Premier League.
Before the world Cup break, Arsenal were top of the table with 37 points, five points ahead of defending champions, Manchester City.
