Nigeria began their campaign in the women football event of the 2024 Olympics on alosing note after Brazil snatched a 1-0 victory in the opening Group C match.
Gabi Nunes’s spectacular goal after 38 minutes proved to be the match winner in the very physically bruising contest.
Spain now lead the group after they saw off 2011 world champions Japan 2-1 in the opening game of this first round section.

Meanwhile, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach, has confirmed the rejection of the request for the ban of Israel from the Paris 2024 Olympic games.
Bach insisted that the Olympic body is neutral and would not be dragged into political issues.
Palestinians had request IOC to bar Israel from taking part at the Paris Olympic Games, but Bach said both Israel and Palestinian athletes will be taking part in the games.
He assured of his confidence in the French Government to provide adequate security for athletes and their accompanying officials.
Alresdy, the French Government has deployed 45,000 Police Officers to provide security for the Games.
Official sources disclosed that 1000 military personel have also been deployed to provide security cover at the games.
