This was disclosed in a statement by the Secretary of Nigeria Wrestling Federation Mohammed Maigidansanma.
Maigidansanma said the late Jerry was in the same boat with other Nigerian wrestlers when the incident occurred.
He said the accident happened when they were on their way from a community known as Peremabiri after a traditional wrestling tournament.
Part of the statement reads, “The Nigeria Wrestling Federation mourns the passing away of a young Wrestler John Jerry who was from Akwa Ibom state.
“The Federation with tears mourns the accident which happened around Onyoma/Oporoma of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
“We pray almighty God to grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Jerry was introduced into wrestling by the President of the Federation, Daniel Igali, for his high performance in training at the wrestling centre in Yenagoa, the state capital.
