The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) Engr. Simbi Wabote on Friday stated that the need to promote local content, as well as empower Nigerian youths has inspired the Board’s continuous investment in capacity building.
The ES made the statement while speaking at the Commissioning & Handover Ceremony of the NCDMB Sponsored Renovation, Upgrade & Equipping of the Ultra-Modern Woodwork and Carpentry Workshop at Government Technical College, Abak, Akwa lbom State.
According to Wabote, the NCDMB is not “an intervention agency but a regulator who further branches into capacity building and manpower improvement.”
He added that the workshop would help students in acquiring basic skills in ensuring the promotion of local content within Nigeria and Africa, as well as in enhancing their educational pursuit.
Principal of the College, Elder Friday Emmanson Udoka in his goodwill message, noted that the staff and students are overwhelmed by the facility and equipment provided by the NCDMB.
He pointed out that the equipment will not only enhance teaching and learning, but also provide opportunity for students to be self-employed after graduation from the college. “It is our hope that the students themselves will be employers of labour afterwards,” he added.
He further thanked the Board for the project and promised its sustenance, pledging to make maximum use of the equipment to improve knowledge of the students and staff.
