Nigerians have demanded that Government take urgent steps to bring to justice, a Chinese man who murdered his alleged ex-lover in Kano State.

The 23-year-old lady identified as Ummakulsum Sani Buhari (Ummita), once dated the Chinese man, but later married someone else, a decision which enraged the Chinese man and caused him to break into their house and hack her to death.

Ummita was reportedly hacked to death in her family house at Janbulo Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State on Friday night.

The culprit, Heritage Times HT gathered, was identified as Geng Quanrong, a 47-year-old Chinese employee of the BBY textile company in the Kwari Market in Kano. He has a 13-year-old daughter and a 46-year-old wife who both live in China.

Recounting how the horrific incident happened, the bereaved mother told Daily Trust that: “She was my daughter; he (the Chinese man) always comes around wanting to see her and she has been refusing. This time around when he came, he kept knocking on the door. When I was fed up of him hitting the door loudly, I opened the door and he pushed me aside and got in and started stabbing her with a knife.

“I started shouting and people came running. We rushed her to the hospital but before we arrived, she was dead. It happened around 9.30pm. We were at home with her two younger sisters when it happened. Her brother was out and her father is dead. It was raining then, people were indoors and couldn’t hear me shouting until when someone came and tried going in through the window.

“I want the authorities to see to this criminal act. It was long since their love affair ended. She got married and later got divorced. That was when he came back to her life, pressing that he must see her. He used to come in although we don’t like it but he doesn’t understand. We used to chase him out. When I attempted informing the police, my children would refuse and say let’s not take the matter public.

“The man that came to her aid and went through the window; he was the one who caught him and brought him out. He ran off and they chased him and brought him back. He is now with the police. She was my eldest daughter but she has two elder brothers.

“He understands that she doesn’t want to see him. When he calls, she doesn’t pick up. That’s when he decided to invade. He knocked at the door for almost an hour. She was the one who asked me to go and send him away after which he pushed me away upon opening the gate.

“He went straight to her room. He knows where the room is because he used to come in. In most cases, it’s her brother that used to send him away. They first met at Shoprite when she went to buy perfume and they exchanged phone numbers. That’s how they started making out on calls.

“When she got married, they separated until when she was divorced. Her husband suspects they were chatting with him on phone although that was not what led to the failure of her marriage. Of course, she told him that she was going to marry him, but because her paternal uncles saw issues coming, they refused and I agreed with them.”

Nigerians have since taken to Twitter to vent their anger and demand action from the state and federal governments, with the hastag#JusticeForUmmita already trending.

Reacting on his twitter handle, Bashir Ahmad, Social Media handler of President Muhammadu Buhari said, “This is a very sad and devastating story of a Chinese man slaughtering a young lady in Kano. Good to find out that the the perpetrator has since been arrested by the authorities. #JusticeForUmmita.”

A viral video showed an angry mob already prepared to administer jungle justice on the Chinese, who lamented as policemen showed up and whisked the culprit away.

Chinaza Asogwa wrote: “This Chinese man murdered a girl for refusing him. Like what is this exactly @BenHundeyin have you heard of this? Please this should not be overlooked everyone should lend their voices to this.”

Another user, Mohammed Jammal wrote: “A few days ago, someone’s best friend stabbed and threw him in the pool to die in Abuja. Today, Ummita’s Chinese friend stabbed her to death in Kano. Our enemies are very close. Be careful. #JusticeForUmmita.”

Omar Ladan on his part wrote: “This deeply affects my heart. In Jambulo, Kano state, a Chinese guy broke into a home and fatally stabbed their daughter (ummita). The Nigeria government or Kano administration should put this into effect and impose restrictions on all Chinese citizens.”

“If a Nigerian did that in China, there would have been VISA restriction for months. But we can’t dare because we’ve borrowed our entire livelihood from China. What a sad country! This deeply affects my heart. In Jambulo, Kano state, a Chinese guy broke into a home and fatally stabbed their daughter (ummita). The Nigeria government or Kano administration should put this into effect and impose restrictions on all Chinese citizens,” another user tweeted.

“This is Ummita. She was st^bbed to d3ath by this Chinese man. He broke into her home and st^bbed her until she stopped breathing. Our inefficient justice system has given even foreigners the audacity to perform heinous crimes in our country. We must call for #JusticeForUmmita,” another wrote.

The deceased was buried around 10am on Saturday, according to Islamic rites.
