Two Nigerian sprinters – Tobi Amusan and Favour Ofili have won their various races at the Holloway Pro Classic in Florida, United States of America, less than one week to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
While Amusan, a World record holder captured the Women’s 100m hurdles, Ofili clinched 100m and 200m.
Amusan raced to victory in a time of 12.49 seconds, beating US Champion Masai Russell who return a time of 12.51 seconds.
Cindy Sember of the United Kingdom followed in 12.62 seconds.
Earlier, Amusan dominated the field with a winning time of 12.49s, besting Russell (12.51s) and Great Britain’s Cindy Sember (12.62s) at the heat stage.
Denisha Cartwright of the Bahamas finished fourth in the final with 12.79s, while Christina Clemons of the USA came in fifth at 12.88s.
On the other hand, Ofili dominated the Holloway Pro Classic, winning both events few days to her maiden Olympics participation.
Her win set a strong tone for her 2024 Olympic prospects which starts on July 26, with the track and field events holding from August 1 to 11.
In the 100m, despite a poor start, Ofili crossed the finish line in 11.07s, narrowly edging out her training partner, USA’s Candice Hill who recorded the same time.
The time was Ofili’s second fastest this season after winning the national title at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, in 11.08s last month.
Ofili returned to the track for the 200m event, clinching another victory with a time of 22.36s.
Candice Hill of the USA again finished second in 22.62 seconds, while Adaejah Hodge from the British Virgin Islands came in third at 22.66s.
Kristina Knott of the Philippines and Anna Hall of the USA rounded out the top five with times of 23.29s and 23.81s respectively.
