Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), on Wednesday failed to honour the invitation of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee probing alleged loss of 2.4 billion dollars from the illegal sale of 48 million barrels of crude.
Abubakar Malami was invited by the committee along with other officials of government by the committee headed by Hon. Mark Gbillah.
Malami along with his counterpart in the Finance Ministry, Zainab Ahmed and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele had been given last opportunity to appear before the ad-committee to offer explanations on inflows from recoveries from whistleblowers.
Gbillah had on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction with the non-appearance of Malami and others, after they had last week declined to honour same invitation.
Documents from the Accountant General showed that recoveries were made from whistleblowing, and whistle-blowers paid, but no evidence to show that those monies were expended in accordance with the relevant laws, Gbilah alleged.
The committee said if the government officials failed to honour the invitation next time, they will be summoned and further statutory powers will be exercised.
