There are indications that defending champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will not participate in the next edition of the African Football League.
This according to reports, is due to their unimpressive performance in the maiden edition of the competition.
Eight teams including Enyimba International started the competition last year, but the People’s Elephant as they are also known, suffered a humiliating defeat to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.
The football body in the continent has stated readiness for the next edition of the competition.
President of CAF Patrice Motsepe has begun a conversation with more sponsors to invest in the competition.
According to the update from the competition department of CAF, all the teams that participated in the maiden edition will be retained but the Nigerian representative will be dropped.
The body has yet to announce to the team who will take their position and they are also nursing the ambition of increasing the teams.
Enyimba’s form has dwindled in recent times both at the domestic league and cup games.
Aside not topping the league table, Enyimba were recently booted out of the Federation Cup by a second tier club.
