An executive board member of the immediate past board- Ibrahim Musa Gusau has emerged the new President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Gusau, Chairman of the Zamfara State Football Association was announced winner of the presidential contest on Friday evening after he beat other aspirants, including two former Vice Presidents – Seyi Akinwunmi and Shehu Dikko during the ongoing elective congress of the NFF in Benin City, Edo State capital.
The new NFF boss also defeated Abba Yola, a top government official and Chief of Staff to Nigeria Minister of Youth and Sports Development and ex-Nigerian international Peterside Idah.
The winner scored a total of 39 votes, after a second round of voting.
The first round of the presidential contest couldn’t produce any winner after none of the aspirants got the required vote cast which is 50 percent of the voting college.
In the first round result, Gusau gained the overwhelming lead with 21 votes, and former first vice president came second with 12 votes, while erstwhile 2nd vice president came third with six votes.
Akinwunmi and Dikko later stepped down to pave way for Gusau’s emergence, then the electoral committee declared the winner after second round process.
Heritage Times HT reports that Gusau has now succeeded erstwhile President Amaju Melvin Pinnick, who left the post after eight years in charge of the country’s football house amidst controversies laced with many down-time performance.
Peterside and Abba Yola got one vote each, while other aspirants – Christian Emeruwa and David Doherty finished with no votes.
