After posting a superb performance against Olympique Marseille, Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has been named UEFA Europa League player of the week.
Atalanta defeated the French Ligue One side 3-0 in Bergamo.
During the match, Lookman scored and provided an assist in Thursday night’s semifinal, opening the scoring in the 30th minute, and then provided an assist to Matteo Ruggeri’s goal in the 52nd minute to extend Atalanta’s lead.
He was put up against AS Roma’s Mile Svilar for the award and the former Leicester City attacker got more votes to emerge as the winner.
Lookman is expected to be in action when Atalanta faces the German champion Bayer Leverkusen in the final of the competition slated for Dublin.
With 12 goals and eight assists, the 26-year-old Nigerian has had a significant role in Atalanta’s success this season, accumulating 20 goal involvements in total.
It’s the first time he will be winning the award this season.
Meanwhile, the Europa League final will see Atalanta face Bayer Leverkusen in Dublin on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
