A Nigerian professor, Ibrahim Abubakar has made the country proud in faraway United Kingdom with his appointment as Dean in the University College, London.
In a statement, UCL said the appointment will take effect from August 1, 2021.
Professor Ibrahim Abubakar is a world leading scholar of infectious disease epidemiology, is the director of UCL Institute for Global Health, and was instrumental in the development of UK’s Covid-19 vaccine.
The Nigerian professor will take over from Professor Graham Hart, who has served as inaugural Dean since August 2011.
He qualified in medicine in 1992 from Ahmadu Bello University and initially trained in general medicine before specialising in public health medicine.
The don trained in public health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine graduating with an MSc in 1999, DPH from the University of Cambridge in 2000 and a PhD from the University of East Anglia in 2007.
He was elected to the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2020 in recognition of his research in infectious disease epidemiology and migration and health.
