Nigeria’s representatives at the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United on Sunday, succumbed to 0-3 defeat to their Congolese opponent Diables Noir.
Report from Congo revealed that the host club dominated the game from the blast of the whistle and their effort paid off in the 33rd minute through Wunda.
Ngome doubled their lead in the 36th minute and pegged back the Nigerian side, pressing for an equaliser.
Massoumou scored the third goal just before halftime and put the host in total control of the game.
Rivers United, current Nigeria Premier Football League champions, will be given the privilege to recover when they host ASEC Mimosa in the second group game in few days time.
Meanwhile, a Nigerian and Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun continued his good showing in the French Ligue one for Stade De Reims in France.
Just before the game, the England junior International scored 14 goals to put himself in the race for the golden boot award.
Balogun also scored one of the goals on Sunday, as Reims tour opponent Troyes apart.
Balogun has now scored 15 league goals for Reims this season.
