The formidable Nigerian U21 Villeyball team on Friday beat Libya 3-2 to book a place in the semi-final of the 2022 African U21 Men’s Nations Championship.
Nigeria fought tooth and nail to overcome resilient Libya (25-20, 18-25, 25:20, 22-25, 15-8) in the quarterfinal. The Former African U19 Champions had finished second in the group stage of the ongoing tournament in Tunisia.
En route to the last four phase, the Nigerian team led by Coach Sani Mohammed only lost to host – Tunisia.
They beat Morocco and Gambia in the other group encounter.
Reacting to the latest victory, c6oach Mohammed told Heritage Times HT that it was a hard fought outcome, and that the team remains focused on booking a World Cup ticket.
The finalists of the Championship will have the opportunity to feature at the upcoming World Volleyball Championship.
“I want to commend my players for showing character. It was a tensed game, but we showed superiority.
“We won’t focus. We are taking it one after another. It’s our uttermost desire to pick one of World Cup tickets and make our President Engr. Musa Nimrod and other Nigerians proud,” he said.
Heritage Times HT reports that the leadership of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) handed a World Cup ticket to the team.
