Although, Peter Butler’s men had taken the lead in the 24th minute of the game through Murphy Dorley.
The West African country have now suffered four defeats in their last five games (one win).
The Lone Stars are drawn in Group C alongside three-time African champions Nigeria, Central African Republic and Cape Verde in the second round of Africa’s World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
Liberia will hope to manoeuvre their way past their rivals for a chance to feature in their first-ever World Cup.
Liberia narrowly missed out on the mundial in 2002 despite putting up a stellar performance. The George Weah inspired side finished one point behind winners Nigeria in Group B which had Ghana, Sudan and Sierra Leone also gunning for a spot.
