Senator Lee Maeba, a former Nigerian Senator who represented Rivers State South East Constituency from 2003 to 2011, has stated that the Supreme Court ruling affirming the election of Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has brought to an end, the 2023 governorship elections, and is the will of God.
The lawmaker who served in the National Assembly under the platform of Nigeria’s main opposition party – the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has therefore called for unalloyed respect for the Office of the Governor, and has affirmed that “no one man will be allowed henceforth to continue to use Rivers State as a collateral for his selfish and endless pursuit for money and power”.
Heritage Times HT recalls that the Supreme Court on Thursday, January 25 affirmed Fubara’s victory as the Governor of the oil-rich state, throwing out the challenge of his main rival – All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Tonye Cole.
Hours after the court’s verdict, Fubara, who clinched the position under the umbrella of the PDP last year, did not mince words in appreciating his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The duo had been involved even in a political tussle that took the intervention of President Bola Tinubu to quell.

In a statement of Thursday, Sen. Maeba said, “it is therefore, the responsibility of all citizens of Rivers state to pledge their support to the governor of the state to enable him succeeds.
“Respect for the office of Governor is mandatory, irrespective of the occupant, anyone disrespecting the office of the Governor is insulting the people of the State and will face severe consequences”.
“My appeal to the INSATIABLE MAN is that enough is enough.
“No one man will be allowed henceforth to continue to use Rivers State as a collateral for his selfish and endless pursuit for money and power.
“Gov. Sim Fubara is the will of God for governance at this time. All should respect the will of God for peaceful co-existence in the state,” he added.
