Novak Djokovic won his seventh Wimbledon title and 21st Grand Slam crown with a four-set victory over Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in Sunday’s fiery men’s singles final.
The defending champion maintained his grip on the crown with a 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-3) success over Kyrgios, who had previously never lost to Djokovic.
Djokovic made a slower start than his 27-year-old opponent, who initially seemed nerveless in his first Grand Slam singles final.
It was a first major win of the year for the Serb, who was stopped from playing in the Australian Open after being deported because of his vaccination status, and lost to Rafael Nadal in the French Open quarter-finals.
Djokovic has now won four Wimbledon titles on the bounce, adding to his 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2021 triumphs on the grass, but there will be no change to the standings after Wimbledon was stripped of its ranking points due to their ban on Russian and Belarusian players.
