The Nigerian Young Professionals Forum NYPF has aligned with the ongoing agitations by Nigerians, especially youths demanding for police reforms and comprehensive solution to issues bedevilling Nigeria’s wellbeing & future.
The Non-Governmental Organization made up of young professionals from different fields of human endeavours, made its position known on Sunday during an emergency meeting of young leaders and professionals in the country.
Delivering his opening speech at the emergency meeting held in Abuja, Chairman of the NYPF, Moses Siloko Siasia explained that the meeting was aimed at deliberating on strategic solutions that will address current national issues that are against the interests of young Nigerians, and to make known the position of the body regarding the ongoing #EndSARS protests.
Upon making their various submissions, members of the NYPF adopted a resolution, noting that the body is deeply in support of #EndSARS protests and wants the Federal Government to take decisive steps in meeting the demands of young Nigerians which “goes beyond police reforms”.
According to the body: “Young people in the country have been neglected for far too long and things have not been working in their favour. Thus, the #EndSARS movement is a way of venting anger that it is beyond police reforms. It has everything to do with the political and economic structure of the nation.
The body which commended #EndSARS protesters for their resilience in demanding for comprehensive police reforms and good governance, stressed that the agitations were for a noble cause and should not be misconstrued for a political movement.
“We are in a very important moment of our national life and it must be noted that civil and peaceful protest is a human right under our laws. Thus, we are in full support of the collective and constructive structure of the #EndSARS protests and we commend the young people who have shown resilience in their agitations for comprehensive police reforms and good governance
“This is the time for Nigerians to re-write history and to also negotiate our future as young people who are seen as trustees of prosperity. Anyone planning to manipulate the agitations is hereby warned that it is not a political movement. It is a movement of the people, a movement of sincerity, a movement of purpose, it is a movement where young people are coming out to say that enough is enough,” NYPF Said.
The body also called on Government at all levels to live up to expectations in taking pragmatic actions, stressing that it was about time Nigerians experienced purposeful leadership.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to lead from the front at this time. We call on key political office holders who have failed in their responsibilities to resign from their offices and make way for people with ideas to make decisions that will move our country forward.
“This ongoing protests should be seen as an opportunity to restart and reboot the engine of Nigeria’s system. It is a time for the government to sit up and deliver the change that Nigerians desire. NYPF has been calling for active citizenship and Nigerians just delivered active citizenship. The government must now deliver sincere and committed leadership so that we can see progress and achieve the Nigeria of our dreams.”
Present at the emergency meeting were young professionals from different walks of life and youth leaders.
