Odion Ighalo could finally bid his boyhood club goodbye as the 31-year-old attacker is already attracting interests from clubs in the Middle-east.
Ighalo completed a loan move to Manchester United from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua on Deadline Day in January 2020 and has since scored five goals in 20 appearances.
The ex-Super Eagles forward had an incredible debut season with United; finding the net in four competitive starts for the Red Devils. But, his form soon dropped immensely and the arrival of Edinson Cavani further pushed the striker into obscurity at the club.
The former Watford star, whose initial four-month loan deal was extended in June, has not started a Premier League match for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and made just four appearances for United this season.
However, Ighalo had insisted he was not worried about his limited role at Old Trafford as long as the team was winning.
“I am a team player as long as the team is winning, doing well, that’s the most important thing,” Ighalo said.
Having fulfilled his lifelong dream of playing for Manchester United, the striker would now look for a new lease of life elsewhere with clubs from Qatar and Saudi Arabia reportedly showing interest in his signature.
Manchester United host local rival Manchester City in the semi-final of the League Cup on Wednesday.
The centre forward could cease an opportunity to get on the scoresheet for the first time this season, before bidding the club farewell by the end of January when his contract expires.
The striker, whose goals have all come from Cup games, still has something to look back at—which is matching a record once held by Jimmy Hanson in 1925 when he scored in consecutive starts against Hull City, Blackpool, Derby County and Aston Villa.
A move away from Old Trafford doesn’t need further deliberation for Ighalo, who has fulfilled his dream and now shifts attention towards a potential move to an oil rich nation in the middle east, Asia.
