A civil organization Yiaga Africa has expressed displeasure over irregularities that characterized Ondo State governorship election including vote-buying.
Speaking at a press conference on situational report, the Co-chair of Yiaga Africa 2020 Ondo Election Observation Mission, Aisha Abdullahi lamented that the organization received reports of vote-buying from Akure South, Ose, Ondo West, Ilaje and Akure North with the secrecy of the ballot compromised.
Yiaga which further decried that a number of electoral offences occurred in the presence of security personnel, added that no arrests were made nor reprimands given to the culprits.
The body also observed that election was not in compliance with INEC COVID-19 protocol on social distancing, adding that disinfectant/sanitizers and infrared thermometer were not found in 74% of polling units.
The body however commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the early arrival of materials to polling units.
It also hailed the good people of Ondo people for their peaceful conduct during the voting process, urging them to remain patient and calm.
