Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru was on target for Galatasaray as the Turkish giants cruise past Kayserispor 3-0 in Saturday’s top-flight fixture.
Onyekuru has been on a superb form since he returned from AS Monaco but that did not earn him a place in the Super Eagles’ 24-man squad to battle Benin Republic and Lesotho later this month.
The 23-year-old made a statement in Kayseri after replacing Emre Akbaba in the 68th minute, with two crucial goals that boosted the Lions’ hunt for the Super Lig title.
Onyekuru now has five goals after nine league appearances for Fatih Terim’s side in this campaign.
His compatriot, Oghenekaro Etebo was included in Nigeria’s 24-man squad, came on as an 82nd-minute substitute while former Enyimba centre-back Valentine Ozornwafor was an unused substitute.
In Russia, former Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses inspired Spartak Moscow to victory over neigbours Dynamo Moscow in a derby encounter on Saturday.
Spartak Moscow went behind in the first-half but did not last for long as Moses fired a right-footed shot into the bottom corner to draw the People’s Team level on the half hour-mark, before Alexander Sobolev scored the match-winning goal for the visitors from the penalty spot.
The Chelsea loanee could not finish the first-half as he limped off with a suspected knee injury in the 40th minute.
However, it was a mixed feelings for Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder, Joel Obi, as his goal counted for little in the Italia Serie B game played on Saturday as his club Chievo Verona suffered a 4-2 defeat in the hands of Lecce.
The former Parma midfielder scored in the 22nd minute to take the scores to 1-1 before being substituted in the 46th minute for Luca Palmiero.
Super Eagles centre-back Chidozie Awaziem was shown a red card as Boavista suffered a 2-0 defeat to Benfica in Saturday’s Portuguese top-flight encounter.
The Nigeria international dealt a dangerous tackle on Gian-Luca Waldschmidt in the eighth minute of the encounter played at Estadio da Luz.
Following his dismissal, Awaziem will miss his team’s next outings against Farense and Belenenses.
