Nigeria’s Super Eagles Hitman, Victor Osimhen, has continued doing great things in Europe, after he scored a brace to help Napoli to a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in a 2022/23 UEFA Champions League encounter on Wednesday night.
The Nigerian’s latest exploit led his team to surge into its first ever Champions League quarter-final stage.
He also became first Napoli player to score in both legs of a UCL knockout tie, after scoring in the first leg which ended 2-0 in favour of Napoli in Germany.
Osimhen has now scored four goals from nine shots in five games in the Champions League this season.
He has scored 23 goals in all competitions for Napoli this season and is leading the club’s quest to win their first Serie A title in 30 years.
The 24-year-old was deservedly named the man of the match in the encounter.
How the second leg panned out
Osimhen opened the scoring for the hosts just before halftime, with a glancing header from Mateo Politano’s cross.
He added the second in the 53rd minute, after guiding Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s cross into the net.
Piotr Zielinski scored the third goal from the spot to confirm Napoli’s place in the last eight in style.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid cruised into the Champions League quarter-final, after the holders’ five-star display at Anfield meant a low-key 1-0 win at the Bernabeu was enough to emphatically knock Liverpool out of the competition.
The Merseysiders have produced heroic comebacks in the past, but it was never on the cards here, as Karim Benzema netted the only goal of the game 12 minutes from time, to secure a 6-2 victory on aggregate for Carlo Ancelotti’s Spanish champions.
