Nigerian football star, Victor Osimhen, on Thursday October 6, 2022 in Italy, welcomed his first child, whose identity was revealed as a girl.
His club, Napoli, broke the news in a statement on their official website without revealing where and when the child was born, with the mother’s identity also shrouded in secrecy.
The 23-year-old, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, wasn’t present at training on Thursday morning when the rest of the team resumed training after Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League 6-1 whitewash of Ajax in Amsterdam.
The Nigerian striker wasn’t known to be romantically involved with any woman, which is why the news of his daughter’s birth will come as a rude shock to his fans, especially in Nigeria.
Osimhen has not featured for Napoli since September 7, 2022 when he suffered the injury during their 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in the Champions League.
He was replaced by Simeone 41 minutes into the match as the Azzurri ripped the Premier League giants apart in front of their raucous fans.
Prior to the injury, he featured in five Serie A matches in the new 2022/2023 season and played 425 minutes.
He started in all five of these appearances across seven fixtures, notching two goals and providing one assist, making him tied as the team’s second-top league scorer.
He is expected to be back in action during this weekend’s Serie A trip to Cremonese.
