Paul Pelosi had been discharged from the hospital six days after the assault that left him with a cracked skull, wounds to his head, and injuries to his arm.
The attack on Mr. Pelosi, who is married to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, took place early last Friday morning. David DePape, 42, the alleged attacker, was reportedly searching for Nancy Pelosi, who was not in San Francisco at the time of the attack.
After being subjected to significant trauma, Mr. Pelosi reportedly dialled 911 from the toilet of his residence. He was then taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery to treat his fractured skull and other injuries.
On Wednesday evening, the Department of Homeland Security declared that Mr. DePape was an unauthorized immigrant. He has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him, which range from assault to attempted murder and attempted kidnapping.
