Soccer great Pele has denied reports suggesting he updated his Instagram bio to Leading Goal Scorer of All Time (1,283) after Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed his initial record which stood at 757.
Ronaldo scored a brace in Juve’s 4-1 demolition of Udinese in the Serie A to take his goal tally to 758 but all expectations to see the Portuguese sit above Pele was dashed hours after the 35-year-old eclipsed the Brazilian’s record.
Pele came under heavy criticism after fans pointed out the adjustment on the legendary Brazilian footballer’s account.
However, the Santos legend commented on Twitter that he did not make any changes or whatsoever.
“I was accused by the press of having changed my Instagram bio to overshadow these big stars that are breaking my records.
“The bio text has always been the same since I joined the platform. None of this should distract us from your incredible achievements.”
The 80-year-old recently congratulated Lionel Messi after the Argentine bagged his 644th goal for Barcelona which made him the player with most goals for a single club, surpassing Pele’s strikes for Santos.
But Santos released a statement stating that Pele scored 1091 goals and is still the player with the most goals.
