Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City are in a good shape to reclaim the Premier League title from Liverpool after the Blues recorded a 21 straight win against Wolves on Tuesday.
An own goal caused by Leander Dendoncker barely 15 minutes into the encounter handed the hosts an early lead before Conor Coady levelled up midway through the second half.
But, City piled more pressure on their opponent’s defense as Gabriel Jesus’ brace and Riyad Mahrez’s injury time strike gave Pep Guardiola’s side a 4 – 1 success over Wolves.
Despite leading his team to a crucial victory which further puts them in a great position to sealing a third Premier League success in four years, Guardiola insisted attention has shifted to Sunday’s Manchester derby.
“The champions are Liverpool,” said the City boss. “The crown belongs to them.
“We are in the best position right now to take it and we are going to try, but they are the champions. We want it and that’s what you need.
“We are 15 points ahead, but tomorrow our opponent will play.
“One or two days off for everyone is good, especially mentally because we don’t have much time and we have to prepare for United at home.”
City also equalled the club record of 28 games unbeaten and Guardiola says he will only reflect on their achievements at the end of the season.
“Man United, that is the only care,” he said. “We are going to look at the records and everything we have done in the league when it’s over, so for now our concentration is on Man United.”
