Unhappy with the menace of rising insecurity, youths from communities along Funtua-Dandume-Birnin-Gwari Road have come out en-masse to protest.
They also blocked the Funtua-Dandume-Birnin-Gwari Road to register their grievances, a development which delayed travellers for about three hours before the police from Funtua intervened.
The protests come just a few weeks after over 300 schoolboys kidnapped from their school at Kankara in Katsina regained freedom a week after their abduction.
Katsina which is President Muhammadu Buhari’s state of origin has been witnessing a spike in insecurity. Some travellers on the Funtua-Dandume-Birnin-Gwari road have experienced armed robbery attacks.
It was learnt that the protesters gathered on the road as early as 7AM and used tree branches and worn-out tyres to block the road.
The protesters alleged that their communities suffered attacks every day from gunmen.
They added that motorists plying the route also suffered attàcks by armed robbers, the development which they alleged had made several road users abandon the route.
A resident of the area, Sadi Bala who spoke to The Punch revealed that no fewer than 50 people have been abducted along the route in the past week.
“About fifty people from the communities that were kidnapped during the week by the gunmen are still being held by their abductors,” Bala said.
It was further alleged that bandits attacked some communities including Ilalla, Katsalle, Kadawa, and Mahuta around midnight on Friday while residents were said to have repelled them.
