The owners of a Danish ship hijacked by pirates last Saturday in the Gulf of Guinea claim that the hijackers have since abandoned the vessel and taken hostage of 16 crew members.
Other persons have been rescued on the Monjasa Reformer, which is a Liberian-flagged vessel.
The rescued persons sought shelter in the tanker’s secure room when the five pirates boarded, the owners claimed on Tuesday.
They are said to be in excellent health, and neither the ship nor its cargo has been harmed.
The ship which was hijacked west of Porte Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo was found by the French navy off Sao Tome and Principe.
