The Nigerian police rescued 9 of its officers who were abducted on their way to way to Zamfara from Borno state.
The officers went missing on 8th November, 2020 between Kankara town and Sheme in Katsina State after the night commercial bus they were travelling in came under attack by heavily armed men, all dressed in Military Camouflage, but suspected to be bandits.
Contrary to reports in some sections of the media, only 9 officers were abducted not 12.
Announcing the release of the officers in a statement on Friday, Force spokesperson Frank Mba said the abducted officers were all Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs)
The statement which noted that two of the officers were currently receiving treatment, added that remaining 7 were being debriefed.
“The officers, all Assistant Superintendents of Police, were on their way to Gusau in Zamfara State from Maiduguri at the time of the incident. Two of the officers are currently receiving medical attention in a hospital, while the remaining seven are being debriefed,” the statement read in part
It also noted that the force is working round the clock to boost tactical presence of police personnel on highways as well as ensure improved safety as Yuletide approaches.
