A widespread power outage has disrupted electricity supply to the Nigerian Presidential Villa and multiple areas in Abuja due to technical issues affecting feeders managed by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
In a statement issued on Friday, February 28, the AEDC confirmed the disruption, attributing it to faults in the distribution network supplying parts of the capital.
The company explained that the fault had impacted power transmission to several districts within the city.
“We regret to inform you that the power outage is due to a technical fault on the feeder serving these areas,” the distribution company (DisCo) said.
The blackout affected numerous locations, including CKC Gwagwalada, Kuje Road, Almat Farms, Kiran Farm, Efugo, Kwali Road, L5 Injection Substation, Chukuku Environs, Premium Farm, El-Rufai Estate, Daghiri, Kuje Extension, John Calvin Estate, Kings Court, Karmo District, and Idu Industrial.
Other impacted areas include Urban Shelter Katampe, Living Faith Church Katampe, Jahi Village, Katampe Extension, Jahi by Gilmore, Gishiri, Mabushi, Kadokuchi, Navy Estate, Anan House, NAF Conference, Lake View Phase 1 & 2, Custom Quarter, Chida Hotel, Dakibiu, Brains and Hammer City Estate, Today Estate, Dape District, Katsina Estate, Paradise Estate, Ochacho Estate, Kafe District, and American Embassy Estate.
Parts of Gwarinpa, including Zone C War College, Lateef Jakande, Zone E, and Zone D, as well as Bestway Hotel and Eterna Filling Station, were also impacted.
The outage also extended to Dantata, R3 Injection Substation, R4 Injection Substation near the Three Arms Zone, Aso Drive, Lugbe FHA 1, parts of FHA 2, Tudunwada, Master’s Lounge, Total Filling Station, Salem Academy, Environmental, areas behind Premier Academy, Old Metro Bakery, Video Club, Pack Well, Unity Hospital, Sector F, and communities near R5 Injection Substation and Naff Valley Estate Injection Substation.
Reassuring affected residents and businesses, the AEDC urged patience, stating that efforts were in progress to resolve the problem.
“Our dedicated technical team is working tirelessly to restore power as quickly as possible,” the company stated.
