The Premier League Board has banned Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich from running the club by disqualifying him as a Director at the English top-flight outfit.
The league Board’s decision on Saturday to disqualify the Russian oligarch from being a Director, ends his 19 years in control of the West London club, but does not directly affect the players.
The Russian billionaire has had it rough with the United Kingdom Government who have frozen all his assets in England due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The decision by the Government to sanction Abramovich, however made it impossible for the Russian to have absolute control over day-to-day running of the Blues.
And according to the latest news on UK Sun, Abramovich will no longer be permitted to have anything to do with Chelsea.
A statement from Premier League’s spokesperson read:
“Following the imposition of sanctions by the UK Government, the Premier League Board has disqualified Roman Abramovich as a Director of Chelsea Football Club.
“The Board’s decision does not impact on the club’s ability to train and play its fixtures, as set out under the terms of a licence issued by the Government which expires on 31 May 2022.”
