President Faustin-Archange Touadéra of the Central African Republic, (CAR) has alleged that Western nations are intentionally keeping his country in a state of political instability.
This accusation comes just days after his meeting with French President, Emmanuel Macron.
Speaking at a UN Conference of the world’s Least Developed Countries (LDCs) on Sunday, President Touadéra claimed that “certain Western countries and their companies have been facilitating systematic looting in CAR since its independence.”
According to him, “these countries also finance armed terrorist groups led by foreign mercenaries, which exacerbate political instability” in his nation.
He also highlighted that the Central African Republic is a “victim of geostrategic aims linked to its natural resources.”
The Central African Republic has been plagued by allegations of human rights violations, with CAR troops and soldiers from the Russian mercenary group, Wagner being accused of committing these atrocities.
The European Union, (EU) has since imposed sanctions on some of the group’s senior operative mercenaries operating in the country.
For many years, France maintained close economic and military ties with CAR after its independence.
However, the country later switched to Russia.
