Manchester City will be hoping to seek inspiration from their Carabao Cup triumph over the weekend as they travel to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie.
It’s City’s first semi-final encounter since 2016 when they lost to Spanish giants and eventual winners Real Madrid.
Pep Guardiola will be desperate to win the UEFA Champions League this season, which has stayed elusive ever since he took over at City.
The 53-year-old will be up against a familiar foe in Mauricio Pochettino. The Paris Saint-Germain manager will be keen to dispatch yet another Champions League favourite on their way to the final.
Pochettino defeated Guardiola in their last Champions League meeting and having already masterminded victories over Barcelona and holders Bayern Munich in this campaign, the Argentine tactician could be on his way to snatching another important victory over Guardiola.
Pochettino was appointed in January, charged with the task of taking PSG a step further than last season under Thomas Tuchel, when they reached the Champions League final for the first time but lost to Bayern.
Though Pochettino’s men recorded impressive wins over Barcelona and Bayern have come but their grip on the Ligue 1 title has slipped — with four games of the season left they are a point behind leaders Lille.
But the Parisans have been in great goalscoring form of late and Manchester City will need to dig deep in order to eke out a favourable result tonight.
