British monarch Elizabeth II has reacted to the Oprah interview in which Prince Harry and his wife Meghan made explosive racism claims.
The queen in an issued statement said: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.”
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
There has been mounting pressure on Buckingham Palace to respond to claims made in an Oprah Winfrey interview which triggered a crisis unseen since the anguished days of Harry’s late mother, Diana, in the 1990s.
Prince Charles, Harry’s father and the heir to the throne, earlier ignored a question about what he made of the interview, as he made his first public appearance since the row erupted.
