Manchester City star, Raheem Sterling could be in line to make a sensational return to Liverpool.
Sterling was linked with a move to Barcelona, but it is being claimed that he would prefer a switch back to the red half of Merseyside.
The Mirror has drawn attention to the claims made by El Nacional, which states that the winger would prefer to work under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
The 26-year-old enjoyed the breakthrough spell of his career at Anfield, scoring 23 goals in 129 appearances across all competitions for the red half of Merseyside.
Sterling is currently under contract at Manchester City until June 2023, and is valued at £81million by transfermarkt, despite a largely frustrating season so far.
Despite being one of England’s star performers at last summer’s European Championships, Pep Guardiola has only handed Sterling three Premier League starts this season. He’s featured 15 times in all competitions for City, scoring twice.
Sterling will therefore be eager to revive his club career, but one of the main obstacles in striking a deal with Liverpool is the fact that City are reluctant to sell one of their assets to a Premier League rival, and would therefore prefer to deal with a club abroad.
For now, Sterling’s focus will be on securing more game time at the Etihad in the upcoming match at home to Everton on Sunday.
Guardiola’s men head into the contest sitting second on the table with 23 points from 11 games – three behind league leaders Chelsea.
City ran out 2-0 winners away at Manchester United in their last match before the international break.
