Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois has blamed the midfielders for their 1-0 loss to Paris-Saint Germain in the Champions League last-16 first leg tie on Tuesday.
Despite saving Lionel Messi’s penalty on the night, the Belgian’s effort to stop the Parisans failed as Kylian Mbappe pulled one at added time.
The Belgium international shot-stopper could not hide his frustration after the final whistle, but assured that the second leg in Madrid would be different.
“Yeah, bit annoying, we lost the ball in midfield and he goes away easily from two players,” he told BT Sport.
On why he could not stop Kylian Mbappe’s 94th minute strike, the Belgian said, “I had to close the angle so I went down as fast as I could to block the low side, where he likes to shoot is on the left side, but the ball went just in the right space under my body.
“It was hard to take after such a game.
“But nothing is lost, we just have to win at home. Even with a draw, we still had to win at home. Now, it just has to happen in 90 minutes.”
