Former Real Madrid wonderkid, Royston Drenthe has been declared bankrupt at age 33 by a court the Netherlands.
Though, the Dutchman was not present during the hearing in Breda as the court made the ruling.
However, Drenthe, who played for Everton explained that his lawyer was on holiday and expects the decision to be reversed.
The 33-year-old told Dutch site voetbalzone quoted by Daily Mail: “I don’t know the ins and outs and I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but if this is what I think it is, it’s not that important.
“I’m always under a magnifying glass, but it will be resolved as it should.” Drenthe who began his career with Eredivisie side Feyenoord before moving to the Santiago Bernabeu had lost £3.2million after his glittering career in football.
Drenthe currently plays for Kozakken Boys in the Dutch third division.
He won La Liga in 2007 in his first season at the Spanish capital but failed to stamp his place at the Bernabeu before he jet out on loan to Premier League side Everton.
Drenthe also played for Reading between 2013 and 2015 as well as a loan stint with Sheffield Wednesday before he kicked off a career in music and acting after quitting football in 2016.
In 2018, Drenthe staged a return to football where he featured for Sparta Rotterdam.
