Following a recent research conducted in the wake of Chelsea’s defensive solidity across all competitions, It has been discovered that Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is worth the same amount as the Blues revived backline.
The North London side ended their blistering defensive run after David McGoldrick slot in an open opportunity for Sheffield United in the early minutes to dash Frank Lampard’s hope of making it six clean sheet in a row.
Maguire arrived Old Trafford from Leicester City two seasons ago, in a six-year deal worth £80 million; the highest for a defender in the history of the English Premier League.
However, Lampard who had trouble nights resolving Chelsea’s defensive crisis last season, brought in Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The 42-year-old landed Silva on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain while paying £22 million for the services of his 28-year-old goalkeeper.
He also bought Chilwell from the King Power Stadium on a five-year contract in the range of £45 million as reported by Republic World.
The Blues legend also brought in Reece James; an academy graduate, who has been impressive on the right flank since making his debut.
And the inclusion of the 21-year-old did not cost Chelsea a single dime – becoming the second player with zero transfer cost apart from Silva.
Kurt Zouma joined London club in 2014 in a deal around £13 million from French League side Saint-Etienne.
Thus, the total amount of these players equals to the same amount United splashed on just one player.
Yet, Manchester United have not found the solution to their leaky defence having conceded 14 goals and in seven Premier League appearances this season.
