Morecambe may have been knocked out of the 3rd Round of FA Cup by Chelsea but the players were instructed to shoot within 40-yards to getting close to Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been dropped from the pecking order following the arrival of Eduoard Mendy in the summer.
But the 26-year-old was given a chance in the FA Cup clash against the League Two who tried to play mind games with the goalkeeper’s form.
And when Morecambe players entered into the Blues’ half, there were shouts from the bench to aim a shot on target.
During the course of the game, Kepa was expecting a cross from the right wing but the Morecambe play took a shot instead which nearly embarrassed the Spaniard but he made a fantastic stop on the goal-line.
Shortly after the chance, Mason Mount gave the Blues the lead before Timo Werner made it 2-0 a minute before half time.
Callum Hudson Odoi and Kai Havertz scored a goal each after the interval to qualify Chelsea into the next round of the oldest competition in football.
Kepa kept a clean sheet all through the game despite the game plan made by Morecambe for the fixture at Stamford Bridge.
Telegram reporter Matt Law explained as quoted by Sport Bible: “Lots of cries of ‘shoot’ from the Morecambe bench on the rare occasions they have got within 40 yards of Chelsea’s goal.
“It’s like they think the world’s most expensive goalkeeper might be a bit unreliable.”
