Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie has attributed the rise of domestic violence in Nigeria to the growing acceptance of feminism.
Edochie who stated this during an interview with the BBC Igbo, said feminism is the cause for the continuous rising of domestic violence against women and broken marriages.
According to the actor, the women are mostly at fault as to the reason behind domestic violence.
He also pointed that the modern women do not know how to do basic things in the house and keep their husbands happy, which he claimed makes some men unable to control their emotions, and in turn results to beating their wives.
Edochie noted further that he does not support beating women because his mother was never beaten and he has never beaten his wife.
Also, he stated that some of the modern trends like kneeling to propose to a woman which the African men indulge in, were non-existent during his time.
He insisted that the African culture does not give room for worshipping of the women just as it is done in the western world.
However, he maintained that he is one who adheres strongly to culture, especially the African culture, but not a woman-hater.
