Fresh indications emerged on Wednesday March 29, 2023, that Nigeria could still pull through in qualifying for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations competition if the Guinea team is found wanting of alleged age falsification of one of its players.
The tournament is scheduled for Morocco.
A Guinean U23 player, Alseny Soumah, is alleged to have falsified his age based on discrepancies in his document.
The Guinea side had on Tuesday night defeated the Olympic Eagles of Nigeria 2-0 on aggregate.
The outcome of a two-legged encounter between the West African nations saw Guinea booking a place in the AFCON tournament, after the first leg ended goalless in Nigeria’s capital Abuja.
Perhaps, the Guineans may have themselves to if investigation is carried out and age scandal allegation is established, Heritage Times reports.
According to an information submitted on transfer markt website, Soumah was born on May 15, 1998 and the second date indicated that he was born on January 1, 2021.
While the later is within range, the earlier birth information shows that he will clock 25 years in May, which makes him ineligible to play for Guinea.
