Altavilla Vicentina, a small town of former Ballon D’or winner, Roberto Baggio, in northern Italy suffered armed robbery attack on a day the country lost to Spain in the ongoing Euro 2024 championship.
Baggio’s home town is an hour’s drive from Venice.
Tensed Invasion
Report said the robbers invaded the former Italian international’s home and locked his family up while they watched Thursday night’s Euro 2024 match between Italy and Spain at 10pm.
While Baggio, known as Il Divin Codino (The Divine Ponytail), tried to fight off the attackers, he was hit in the head with the butt of a gun before he and his family were locked in a room, Daily Mail reports.
One Attack, Too Many Loses
According to the report, the robbers stole watches, jewellery, and money from the isolated estate where Baggio and his family have lived for 15 years in a robbery incident that reportedly lasted nearly one hour.
Though other members of his family didn’t sustain injury, Baggio had to go to a hospital in Arzignano, about eight miles from his home to be treated for his forehead injury which required stitches, while the Police investigates the incident.
Baggio Career Path
The Italian retired footballer spent most of his entire 22-year sporting career in Italy.
He played for Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and won two Serie A titles and is considered one of the world’s greatest players.
