The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed reports making the rounds that Super Eagles Manager, Gernot Rohr has been relieved of his coaching duty.
Rohr had been earlier rumoured to have been shown the exit door by his Nigerian employers, but the NFF says the news was far from the truth.
The federation’s Assistant Director, Media, Ademola Olajire who denied the claims, told Sporting Sun that the German’s fate could only be decided after a board meeting of the NFF.
“I’m not aware of Rohr’s sack because there are procedures for doing things at the federation. Before such decision could be taken, there will be a meeting of the NFF board and a release issued to the public. As for now, I’m not aware of the sack. The online platform you claimed reported the story cannot announce his sack without confirmation from the NFF,” Olajire said.
Similarly, Super Eagles Media Officer, Femi Raji said he’s not aware of the development. “I don’t know about Rohr’s sack,” he simply responded when asked to confirm the report.
The 67-year-old tactician has come under fire in recent months following the Eagles lacklustre performance in the just concluded first phase of the 2022 World Cup qualifier.
Rohr’s men finished top of Group C with 13 points to qualify for the play-offs. But reactions have since trailed the Eagles qualification, with fans expressing doubts over the team’s tactical ability.
