Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo rescued a point for Manchester United again, as they salvaged a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Marcos Alonso’s brilliant volley had put a dominant visiting side ahead on the hour mark, but an instant response from United’s talisman helped them avoid another defeat at home.
Chelsea were on top for the majoirty of the evening, with Mason Mount and Reece James combining well throughout.
The chances in the first half fell to Kai Havertz, who was denied twice by David De Gea. Reece James hit the post late on as Thomas Tuchel’s side pushed for a winner, but there was no late drama for either side.
It was no surprise when Alonso popped up, unmarked, to fire Chelsea ahead on the hour mark after another move down the right.
Howrver, Ronaldo bagged a leveller, after good work from Nemanja Matic in front of a sparse United crowd protesting against the Glazer ownership.
The result puts Chelsea six points clear of 4th placed Arsenal with five games to go, whereas United are five points off the Champions League places having played a couple games more
