Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Manchester United’s hierarchy that he wants to leave, just a year after his sensational return to the club.
As expected, the 37-year-old has outlined the reason for his request as reports suggests that his agent Jorge Mendes may already have a destination for him.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner returned to Old Trafford last year and enjoyed a successful 2021-22 campaign, finding the back of the net on 24 occasions in 37 appearances, in addition to registering three assists.
However, his efforts had proved futile as Manchester United failed to secure a top four finish last season.
Ronaldo is determined to carry on playing in the Champions League as he nears the end of his career. The Portuguese legend is convinced that he needs to find a club where he can compete for top honours again.
Thus, Ronaldo has requested United allow him to leave provided they receive an acceptable offer this summer.
Prior to his request, there has recently been speculation surrounding Ronaldo’s future, with Bayern Munich, Roma, Chelsea and Sporting Lisbon among the clubs to be credited with an interest.
