Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandoski was named the FIFA men’s player for the year 2020 on Thursday night owing to an impressive performance for his club in the outgoing year.
Lewandowski won five major title with Bayern including the UEFA Champions League last season.
He scored 55 goals and 10 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions – a feat that put him ahead of any other player in terms of individual awards.
The 32-year-old would have won this year’s edition of the Ballon d’Or award but the organisers cancelled the award, blaming it on the outbreak of deadly coronavirus.
Although this year’s edition of the FIFA awards was done virtually, the three finalists – Lewandowski, Lionel Mess and Cristiano Ronaldo all joined via teleconferencing.
And when the Bayern star was announced as the winner, the Portuguese’s reaction was not that of someone excited for the winner.

While the Argentine tried wearing a smile, Ronaldo was sulking with earphones in and his arms folded the winner received his title.
Some fans were able to catch the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s reaction during the presentation and it revealed that he was angry he lost to the Polish.
