Cristiano Ronaldo could make a surprise return to Manchester United after reports of a close communication between the club and his agent surfaced.
The Portuguese whose contract with Juventus expires in June next year, has seen his future shrouded with uncertainty after Porto dumped his side out of this season’s Champions League.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Ronaldo’s former club Manchester United have stepped up bid to land the Portugal star but his annual salary would need to be halved for United to make the move happen.
Juventus reportedly placed a price tag of £26million after they held talks with his agent Jorge Mendes last week.
While Ronaldo would relish an opportunity to look elsewhere for a new challenge, Juventus would most definitely be delighted to part ways with the former Real Madrid star’s £27m salary.
Goalkeeper De Gea is currently United’s highest-paid player, who earns £375,000 per week after he penned a new deal in 2019, and he is followed by Paul Pogba, with the midfielder raking in a weekly salary of £260,000.
A reunion may most likely unfold as United boss and Ronaldo’s former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be thrilled to coach him for at least a year, while Juventus would be willing to sell the player in their bid to revamp their squad.
